It was a very warm evening in late May and the Yeovil Young Chamber were setting up in a room on Princes Street, Yeovil. Thirteen young professionals from the Yeovil Young Chamber braved the heat to attend an advice evening for first time buyers. The speakers for the evening covered the range of issues faced by prospective property purchasers: David Woan, Financial Advisor of Ivel Financial Planning, Mathew Wood, MD and Elle Gilpin, Sales Manager from Orchards Estates, and Chris Palucsis, Property Lawyer from Pardoes Solicitors.
David has worked in financial planning for a very long time and his wealth of knowledge is unrivalled in this area. His top tips included ensuring you don’t just go to a high street lender for a mortgage, consider your other options and plan your finances holistically, including your lifestyle costs.
Orchards Estates worked through the process of house hunting and shared advice on where to get help from, seconding David’s recommendations around seeking independent finance advice and not only relying on family and friends.
Chris explained what conveyancers do once a house purchase has been agreed. He managed to make a complicated system engaging and shed some light on the complexities behind the work property lawyers undertake.
The attendees had some great questions for the speakers and despite the warm weather, we enjoyed a good post-talk natter over a pleasant buffet meal.
