>Ilminster Area Guide

Situated at the edge of the rolling Blackdown hills in the Somerset countryside lies the small town of Ilminster, which is also historically associated with nearby Muchelney Abbey.

Ilminster is linked via the M5, A303 and A358 and is also accessible by various bus routes to and from local towns and villages.

For education, Greenfields First School and Swanmead Community School are located in the town, and further learning can be found at Holyrood Secondary School in nearby Chard.

Ilminster boasts a variety of cafes and pubs, including Stonemasons and The George At Donyatt. The Monks Yard is a friendly place to meet and greet, while you can dine out in style at The Retreat, The Shrubbery Hotel or the vegetarian-friendly F.East

A wide range of tourist attractions can be found in and around Ilminster including the 15th century Minster church and Barrington Court, a Tudor manor house. For something a little different, Perry’s Cider Mill is a great place to spend a few hours. Alternatively, more natural locations to visit include Neroche Forest and the Blackdown Hills.

Dillington House is a popular venue for weddings, and also offers classic concerts, educational courses and lectures. Other locations celebrating the performing arts include The Warehouse Theatre, while the Ilminster Arts Centre at The Meeting House often runs exhibitions and further courses.

There are several sporting facilities such as Donyatt Bowling Club, Ilminster Tennis Club, Ilminster Fitness Centre and Brittens Field.
