Yeovil Area Guide

Yeovil

The town of Yeovil lies within the beautiful county of Somerset, on its southern fringe, and is accessed easily by roads such as the A303 and A37.

Bus services run directly to London, while the town is served by two train stations - Yeovil Pen Mill and Yeovil Junction – transporting passengers as far as Bristol, Weymouth, Exeter and London.

Yeovil features several popular educational establishments. The Park School is an independent school, the Bucklers Mead Academy and Preston School offer education at a secondary level. Meanwhile for children starting out in the world of learning, Huish Primary School or St. Gildas Catholic Primary School is the perfect place to begin.

For those wishing to dine out, Yeovil is home to a number of restaurants and pubs. Mulberrys Restaurant and Grill, Tamburinos and Urban Brunch all offer a variety of meals. The Cow and Apple and the uniquely named Quicksilver Mail are also popular places to eat and drink.

Yeovil is also home to a cinema and bowling alley, and a fine evening out can be had at the Octagon and Swan theatres. Meanwhile for a pleasurable shopping experience, the stylish Quedam Shopping Centre provides a wide range of shops and cafes.

Sporting facilities and clubs are prevalent throughout Yeovil. From the football and rugby clubs to Goldenstones Pool and Leisure Centre, and Mudford Recreation Centre, Yeovil offers opportunities for those wishing to keep active. The Olympiad Athletics Club is also nearby, while more sedate sporting activities can be found at Yeovil Golf Club.

Yeovil is a town steeped in history; it is the home of Pittards Leather, a brand established in 1826, and is also home to a 14th century church. A man-made folly – Jack The Treacle Eater – was built around 1775, and just before the start of World War Two, Westlands Aircraft was established, manufacturing aircraft during the war. Today, the company focuses on helicopter production.
